On May 9, a group of people from Lancor Motores Eléctricos participated in a day of auzolan at Martin Etxea, in Gallarta, a shelter that currently houses refugees who have been forced to leave their countries of origin as a result of political persecution, threats or violence for defending human rights, freedom or their ideas.
The day began with a collective work in the center’s vegetable garden. Volunteers and residents collaborated side by side removing weeds, preparing the soil and leaving the land in better conditions for planting different vegetables for the summer. Beyond the physical work, it was an experience of meeting, conversation and sincere collaboration, in which the time shared was as valuable as the task performed.
Sharing from close proximity
After the auzolan, we shared a Colombian meal in a close and very special atmosphere, which also served to welcome a new refugee from Palestine. Around the table we shared experiences, life stories and reflections that helped us to become aware of realities that sometimes we feel far away, but that are part of the daily life of many people.
Martin Etxea is currently home to people from Colombia, El Salvador, Palestine, the Rif or the Sahara, among other places. All of them share a history marked by the need to leave their homes behind to protect their lives, their freedom or their dignity.
Social commitment and shared values

This type of experience reinforces our conviction that organizations can and should have a positive impact on society, actively involving themselves in their environment and contributing, from the collective, to build fairer and more inclusive communities.
An experience that leaves its mark
The day left us with a very clear feeling: it is a privilege to share time with people who, despite having lived through very difficult situations, transmit strength, closeness and an enormous capacity for resilience. Being able to contribute a small grain of sand and, at the same time, learn from their experiences gives even more meaning to this type of meeting.
